GeoWoodstock Day 1: A Chill Start with 600 Smiles

So Day 1 of Geowoodstock? Not exactly the wild geo-adventure you might expect — but hey, we did rack up some serious numbers!

We basically parked ourselves at this rest area for three hours. Yeah, you read that right. Three. Whole. Hours. Just sitting there with our phones out, poking away at adventure labs. It wasn’t exactly thrilling in the traditional sense, but it was actually kind of awesome in its own weird way.

There were 120 adventure labs right in that spot — each one with five questions. If you’re doing the math, that’s 600 answers. Six. Hundred. Answers. I’m not even sure how my phone didn’t overheat or spontaneously combust. But we stuck it out and got every single one of them. No shame in grinding when it means loading up on smileys!

Honestly, it kind of turned into a fun little challenge — like a marathon but for nerds (and I say that with love because clearly, I’m one of them). The area had a good vibe too, with other cachers wandering around doing the same thing. You’d see someone glance up from their phone, make eye contact, and just kind of nod like, “Yeah… I’m in it too.”

After we wrapped up our mobile trivia bonanza, we met up with her cousins for dinner. That was a nice way to end the day — chill conversation, good food, and a break from all the screen-staring. It felt good to reconnect and just unwind after turning our brains into mush from all the questions.

Not the most action-packed kickoff, but a solid Day 1. Let’s see what tomorrow brings — hopefully with a bit more hiking and a bit less tapping. But no regrets — 600 smileys in a single sitting? I’ll take it.
