GeoWoodstock Day 2: Caches, Country Roads, and Cold Brews

Day 2 of GeoWoodstock kicked off bright and early at Mylan Park in Morgantown, and man, it was good to be back. There’s just something about being surrounded by fellow geocachers that instantly feels like home. I ran into a bunch of old friends—people I haven’t seen in years. It’s wild how geocaching brings folks together from all over, and yet when you see them again, it’s like no time has passed.

After hanging around the event grounds for a bit, the adventure really got rolling. My wife and I, along with our cousins from Knoxville who tagged along for the weekend, set out to tackle the Country Roads Challenge. If you’re not familiar, it’s one of those fun regional challenges that takes you through some scenic (and sometimes slightly sketchy) back roads in search of specific geocaches. We made some solid progress—only three more caches left to complete it!

Of course, being the caching-obsessed crew we are, we also knocked out a bunch of Munzees along the way. It felt like every stop had at least a few QR codes waiting to be scanned. It’s kind of addictive, really. One minute you’re hopping out of the car to grab a quick cache, and the next thing you know you’re pacing the sidewalk trying to get a good signal for your next Munzee target.

Somewhere along the way, we took a break from all the GPS chasing and hit up a couple thrift shops. You’d be surprised how entertaining thrift shopping can be with a group like ours. I’m not saying I came home with a vintage lava lamp, but… yeah, okay, I totally did.

We wrapped up the night at Mountain State Brewing, where the pizza was hot, the beer was cold, and the stories flowed as easily as the pints. There’s no better way to end a day full of caching, laughing, and road-tripping with people you care about.

Honestly, days like this are what GeoWoodstock is all about. Great friends, unexpected finds, and memories that stick around way longer than your GPS signal.
