What simple thing makes your day better?

Today’s official writing prompt did absolutely nothing for me. So I scrapped it, wrote my own prompt instead, and actually enjoyed writing. My blog. My rules.

Some people chase happiness by buying a new car, flying to some overpriced beach, or spending three hours making the perfect Instagram post so strangers can pretend to care. Me? My standards are a hell of a lot lower, and life is actually better because of it.

Three things can turn an otherwise crappy day into a good one.

First, my wife. Life throws enough nonsense at all of us. Work sucks. Bills show up like they’re on a subscription service. Something always breaks five minutes after the warranty expires. Coming home to someone who’s genuinely happy you’re there makes all that garbage a little easier to deal with. It’s funny how the older you get, the less you care about excitement and the more you appreciate peace. Turns out that’s worth more than whatever shiny object society keeps trying to sell us this week.

Second, my dogs. They don’t care what kind of day I’ve had. They don’t care if I’m wearing old jeans or if I forgot to shave. They don’t care about politics, social media drama, or whatever fresh stupidity the internet is arguing about today. They’re just happy I’m home. Humans could learn a lot from dogs, but that would require people admitting they don’t already know everything. Good luck with that.

Finally, coffee. Not because I need some fancy single-origin beans harvested by monks on the side of a volcano. Just coffee. Hot. Strong. Functional. It’s basically the operating system patch that keeps me from rebooting halfway through the morning. Civilization runs on caffeine and sarcasm. Remove either one and we’re all standing in traffic screaming at squirrels.

Funny how the best parts of life aren’t complicated. They’re the things waiting for you every single day if you bother to notice them. My wife. My dogs. A good cup of coffee.

Everything else is just background noise.
