What’s a song lyric that has stuck with you forever?
Some people have a deep, life-changing lyric that makes them reflect on the meaning of existence. Mine?
“I wanna be sedated.”
Forty-plus years later and the Ramones still nailed it in four words better than half the self-help industry ever could. Some days it isn’t about wanting to escape life. It’s about wanting thirty damn minutes where nobody needs anything, my phone stays quiet, work quits inventing new bullshit, and the world collectively agrees to leave me alone.
That’s why the Ramones are timeless. No overthinking. No hidden message buried under seventeen layers of metaphor. Just loud guitars, a killer riff, and a feeling every exhausted human has had at least once. Life gets noisy. People get weirder. Social media gets dumber. “I wanna be sedated” still feels like a perfectly reasonable response.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to throw on the Ramones, turn the volume up, and pretend the next twenty minutes don’t exist. That’s probably healthier than arguing with strangers on the internet anyway.
