I have spent pretty much the entire day working on a new custom WordPress theme. Hours of messing with code, changing things, fixing things, breaking things, and then trying to figure out what the hell I broke.

Then WordPress threw a critical error at me.

For a minute, I thought I had completely screwed everything up and lost the whole damn site. Nothing quite like spending all day building something just to have WordPress basically tell you, “Nope.”

Thank God for backups.

I managed to get everything back, but I’m officially calling it for today. I’m going to throw The Archivist back up as the theme for now. It’s my reliable backup theme, and unlike the new one, it currently isn’t trying to kill the website.

I’ll come back to the new theme when I have more time to work on it without rushing. I like where it’s going, but after spending an entire day fighting code and nearly losing everything, I’m done.

The new theme can sit there and think about what it did.

The Archivist is back.
