What was the last live performance you saw?
TOOL. May 21, 2018. Stage AE in Pittsburgh. Yeah, it’s been a while, but that show is burned into my memory like it was yesterday.
Stage AE isn’t the biggest venue, but that just made the whole thing more intense. You could feel the bass in your chest and the crowd was fully locked in. TOOL’s music isn’t exactly what you throw on for background noise—it’s an experience. And live? It hits on a whole other level. Between the lights, the visuals, and that signature eerie energy they bring, it felt like being pulled into another dimension.
I remember just standing there, totally zoned out (in a good way), watching Danny Carey absolutely murder the drums, and Maynard doing his thing in the shadows. No gimmicks. No flashy antics. Just pure, mind-bending music.
Honestly, it’s been way too long since I’ve been to a show like that. Life gets busy, things get in the way. But TOOL in 2018? That was magic. If you’ve never seen them live—put it on your bucket list
