Breaking Up Was the Wake-Up Call I Needed

Share a story about someone who had a positive impact on your life.

Alright, this might sound weird at first—but hear me out. One of the biggest positive influences in my life… was my ex-wife.

Yeah, I know. That sentence doesn’t usually end with “positive.” But sometimes growth comes from the most unexpected places.

When we were together, I was a quiet guy. I kept to myself, kept my emotions bottled up, and pretty much walked on eggshells. Why? Because expressing how I felt—whether I was mad, sad, excited, whatever—usually turned into a problem. If I opened up, it sparked arguments or guilt trips. So, I learned to shut up. Not exactly the healthiest coping method.

But then came the divorce. Sad? Sure. A little messy? Absolutely. But the funny thing is, it was one of the best things that ever happened to me.

After the split, I started figuring out who I actually was outside of that relationship. And guess what? I like talking. I like being open. And I really like not censoring myself. These days, if I’ve got something on my mind, it’s coming out. No filter. No holding back. I say what I mean and mean what I say. If someone doesn’t like it, hey—there’s the door. I’m not here to sugarcoat myself for anyone anymore.

So yeah, my ex-wife had a positive impact on my life… just not in the way either of us probably expected. She helped me realize what I don’t want, and in doing that, I found who I do want to be. I’m stronger now, happier, and way more myself than I ever was before.

Sometimes life teaches you through the people you least expect.

Great honest! I just wish you didn’t have to find out who you were after getting that divorce because that is what marriage is about (growth) so put it all out there next time you find love! She may like who you are ! You don’t sound bad good luck!🙏🏽
